Clair’s May Favorites

Hello my lovelies! It is officially June and I am completely unaware of where the time has gone! Nevertheless, here are my monthly favorites. Enjoy!

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation

I KNOW. Everyone and their mother has raved about this foundation, but in all honestly and humility (for I too did not want to give in to all the hype) this foundation is wonderful. I bought the shade Santa Fe this past December and it has yet to leave me disappointed and/or empty. While common perspective of this foundation is that it’s not the best for your skin, the EWG’s (environmental working group) cosmetic database did not rate any of the ingredients within the NARS foundation above a 3 (which is impressively low) and the formula contains vitamin E (tocopherol) and turmeric, who woulda thunk! This foundation works wonders for my dry/combination skin and has a glowy, just-sexed finish to it and does not make my skin freak the fuck out. It retails at $45, and while this can be pricey I highly recommend this product.

Jojoba Oil

This is definitely a newfound love thanks to Grace. I may have stolen some of hers out of the cabinet one evening when I ran out of makeup remover, and now I am fully converted. Jojoba oil is noncomedogenic (doesn’t irritate your skin/epidermis) and is incredibly gentle and all around wonderful. I apply this in the evenings to remove my makeup, just by massaging it into my skin without water. I do this for a few minutes and then remove it with a hot cloth. It removes all of my makeup, even Benefit’s They’re Real pesky mascara. Also! It’s so cheap and retails around $10 depending on the brand you buy, and also lasts for ages. Much more value than purchasing makeup remover whether it be a balm, cloths, or micellar water.

Ren’s EverCalm Gentle Cleansing Milk

A few months ago I decided to wean my skin off of Proactiv after using it for six years (and when I say wean I mean I cut cold-turkey after realizing how bad, drying, and abusive it was towards my skin). After cutting off the many chemicals and whatnots, my skin proceeded to freak the fuck out for good reason, and it has been a learning curve since then. I previously used Fresh’s Soy Face Cleanser which was okay, but I decided to give Ren’s skincare a try after a month or two. And now folks, I am in love. This cleanser is milky and wonderfully gentle (as the name says), but it also has a lovely smell and leaves your skin silk-like and hydrated. I feel as if Ren’s skincare doesn’t get much hype, but it really should. It’s made without the use of parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, synthetic colours, T.E.A, D.E.A, glycols, silicones, or PEGS, ET AL, so I deeply appreciate this brand with a conscience. It retails for $28, but you do get 5.1 fl oz which is a lot considering.

Too Faced La Crème Lip Cream in Believe

This “lip cream” which is really just a luscious, hydrating lipstick is beyond my favorite at the moment. The color is gorgeous, it’s a rose color in the tube, but becomes a rosy-coral on my lips. It doesn’t not dry them out or fade into weird lines that make me look like Pamela Anderson in the 90’s, it is just plain gorgeous. Don’t hate me, but this lipstick came in the All I Want for Christmas Too Faced gift-set this past holiday season and I don’t believe you can buy it individually in a Sephora. BUT! They do have three similar colors – I Want Candy (which is the same color with some sparkle), Coral Fire (slightly more red), and Bon Bon (which is more coral-y). They go for $22 at your local Sephora, so… GO HAM!

Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal Soothing Lip Balm

OMFG. This lip balm is the bee’s knees. This is another find due to mischievousness in the bathroom, but it is incredibly. Avalon Organics is a fantastic brand first of all, all their ingredients are organic and natural, but this lip balm is like biting into a plump, juicy orange slice as a child. Not exactly orgasmic, but pretty damn close. It’s ultra-moisturizing and smells absolutely amazing. You can purchase this off of drugstore.com for $5, and while the packaging isn’t YSL it’s a beautiful, affordable lip balm.

How was your May? Any favorites that you would recommend?

Happy Reading, Gorgeous!

    • It’s interesting isn’t it! I never would have thought there would be turmeric in my foundation, but Im so glad there is because of tumeric’s beneficial qualities. If you look at Sephora’s online website you can see the ingredients of most of their products and research them as desired.
